I was in desperate need of a haircut for months and after a lot of research, I decided on T-Gardens for my hair care needs. The reviews were good, I liked the idea of going to a Japanese salon because they have experience cutting Asian hair, and as an added bonus, it was very close to me!
I decided to make an appointment with Nao, who is the senior stylist, priced at $80.00 for a haircut and blow dry. Her bio on the website sounded more like a dating profile than a stylist profile, but she had good reviews so I went with it. I got there about 10 minutes early and was the first customer in there, checked in, and got a little worried when they asked if I was in for a keratin treatment. They finally got it sorted out and they sat me down. The door was left open but it was really nice out so it cooled the whole place down. It was the perfect temperature and I was in a light sweater. I pulled out my phone and showed Nao some pictures of Jun Ji Hyun I had saved for hair inspiration. We talked about it a little bit and I felt confident she understood what I wanted.
Nao asked if I'd like anything to drink and I choose green tea and it was surprisingly very good. I had a few sips before I went escorted to the hair washing area. During the hair wash I just sat back and enjoyed my scalp massage. It was glorious. Then, we went back to the chair and Nao asked if she could do the massage first to which I obliged, of course! I almost fell asleep and sadly, that was a fast ten minutes. Then the haircut began!
Nao started out verifying how much I wanted off which was about four inches. I was fairly surprised when she started cutting my hair while she was sitting down in a rolling stool. She would trim one side, then roll on over to the other side. Then she eventually stood up and cut. I had asked for swoopy bangs/long first layers about chin length. When it was time to cut them, she asked about the length again and showed me where she was going to cut. Once I have a nod she cut lower, then trimmed them to make them even. At first I thought they were kind of weird, even after I got home, but now I really appreciate them. I can pull them back in a ponytail and I can also leave them out and have them look nice. Nao blow dried my hair and said if I wanted longer layers once my hair was dry, that was ok. Afterwards, I did chose to have shorter layers and I'm happy I did. The layers are just beautiful. She asked if she could do a loose curl when she was finished drying and cutting my hair, to which I said yes!
I am really happy with my hair! As she was drying my hair, Nao didn't use a lot of products in my hair which I really appreciate. I think she used one thing, and I'm sad to not have asked what it was. It smelled really nice and didn't affect my hair texture (making it sticky). This is the first haircut in a very long time when I didn't come home and immediately wash my hair and do some self-trimming because it wasn't even. To be completely honest, I was underwhelmed when it was happening, but once I got home, I'm ecstatic! It's just perfect!
