Well, in NYC, small is the name of the game. Apartments are small but the price tags are big. We are paying a small fortune each month for our one bedroom. But we just have to make do with what we have. A year ago my husband Matt and I were talking about hobbies and how depending what they are, they can be expensive to start one. Then Matt said if it's a serious hobby, as in I love it, don't try to get dupes for something. Just save up the money and buy the thing you really wanted because you'll get your money's worth out of it if you're serious about the hobby. Well, it may come as quite a shock to you, but we were talking about makeup and makeup accessories, specifically Hakuhodo brushes.
Then last night we were talking about doing a deep clean in our apartment and really organizing everything. I've been dying for a vanity for makeup for quite a while and since we were already thinking of getting rid of a bookshelf, I was trying to figure out a way to put a vanity in the soon-to-be empty space. After whipping out my measuring tape and tissues, there is no room for my beloved vanity at this time. Matt asked what was wrong with Ikea furniture and making a vanity from there. I said nothing was wrong with Ikea, but I am 31 years old (eek!!) and I feel like if I am able to start investing in furniture that I can move with, it will be worth it, not just give away every time we move. Matt immediately asked what I meant by investing, and I told him that it meant spending a little more than Ikea furniture and keeping it with us as we move, not just be allured by the inexpensive. This may be a reaction to our first piece of Ikea furniture giving out on us after about two and a half years of use, but I still want a nice vanity.
I have been looking at pinterest and blogs and youtube videos galore! I think I have found my dream vanity set!
- Let's start with the table! I have been loving Pier 1's Hayworth Desk in Silver. It comes in at a whopping $399.99 and the mirror may be a pain to keep clean, but it's gorgeous and I don't care!
- Then you can choose to a Hayworth Mirror to go with it at $229.99, but I have been loving the light up mirrors! The Vanity Girl Hollywood vanity mirrors are just gorgeous! I love the Broadway Lighted Mirror in silver for $399.99 or their Starlet Vanity Mirror for $299.99. I love these mirrors because they can be stand alone mirrors or can be mounted on the wall.
- The Hayworth Lingerie Chest is stunning! I would love to keep all my makeup in there because the desk doesn't have much space, which I don't mind. The price tag is pretty steep at $499.95 though.
- Last but not least is the Hayworth Mirror Armoire for $379.95. It's just so feminine and beautiful. Do I need it? Well, yes, yes I do. lol!
There is a very thin silver lining to all this- both Pier 1 and Vanity Girl Hollywood offer 20% off for Black Friday so I'll probably have to wait until then for the lighted mirror. And for now, Pier 1 is on ebates for 2% cash back.
Well, a girl can dream, can't she?
