Well, all the YouTubers and beauty bloggers have been loving this not-so-cult favorite and my friend Jenn over at The Fake-Up raved about it, so here it is, the Sunday Riley's Luna Sleeping Night Oil. Then the skincare gods smiled down on me and my bank account- Sephora offered a free mini deluxe sample with the purchase of $25 or more. So if that wasn't excuse to make a purchase (hello Koh Gen Do Cleansing Spa Water Cloths!), I don't know what was!
What Is It?
Well, as the name suggests, the Luna Sleeping Night Oil is an oil and a retinoid, which is a form of Vitamin A or related to it. A retinoid helps treat acne, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, and brighten the skin's complexion. The oil has blue tansy in it which gives the oil it's color. The blue tansy helps with hyper pigmentation so it will help get rid of redness and even your skin tone out. It also has avocado oil in it which is a carrier oil which helps carry essential oil into the skin. They also claim to reduce pore size, which I'm not sure is possible.
Persea Gratissima (Extra Virgin, Cold Pressed Avocado) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Organic, Cold Pressed Concord Grape) Seed Oil, Rubus Fruticosus (Cold Pressed Blackberry) Seed Oil, Salvia Hispanica (Cold Pressed Chia) Oil, Dimethyl Isosorbide (and) Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, Chamomila Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Oil, Tanacetum annuum (Blue Tansy) oil, Anthemis nobilis (English Chamomile) oil, Eriocephalus punctualatus (Cape Chamomile) oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Neroli) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Blood Orange) oil, Cananga Odorata Flower (Ylang Ylang) Oil, Vetivera zizanoides (Vetiver) oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil (and) Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, CI 61565 (Green 6), CI 60725 (Violet 2).
How To Use It
You will want to use about 3-4 drops of the Luna Oil. Gently squeeze the ampoule either into your hands or directly over your face. Either way, do not touch the ampoule to your skin; you want to keep it as sanitized as possible. Now you'll have 3-4 drops of blue oil on your face. Don't worry, it won't stain your skin! Gently rub in the oil all over your face and down your neck. If you use too many drops, it'll take longer to soak into your skin, but it still absorbs quickly. I would recommend starting off with two drops, then see how much more you need. I use three, one on my forehead, and one on each cheek. That is more than enough to cover my face and neck.
When To Use It
The Luna Oil is the last step in your evening skincare routine. So after you've cleansed, toned, exfoliated, moisturized, and anything else you have to do, you will put a few drops of the oil into your skin and gently rub it into your skin. It's pretty easy!
Here is where you'll want to cry. This bad boy goes for $105.00 for one ounce. Yup... You read that right. The Luna Oil will set you back $105.00. Go ahead and cry. I won't judge. I'm right there with ya.
- Well, after the first night's use, I used this and when I woke up, I felt my face and my forehead where I have some fine lines felt much better.
- In conjunction with my eye creams, my wrinkles around the inner corners of my eyes have been kept at bay as well.
- I have noticed my complexion is brighter. Anecdotal, but nonetheless true for me.
- It's a travel friendly size, coming in at one ounce.
- I haven't noticed a difference in my PIH (post inflammatory hyper pigmentation) but I am still hopeful.
- Again, the price. $105. But again, with quality products usually comes with a price tag to match quality ingredients.
- In my opinion, the ampoule. There really is no other good way to dispense this product, so the ampoule is about it, but I tend to not like anything other than pumps because of sanitary reasons. I'm not a germaphobe... I swear...
Results: Hype or Holy Grail?
Well, hands down, for my skin, Holy Grail! As I said earlier, I physically noticed a difference after one night. My forehead felt much better! I know this mini deluxe sample won't last me for than another week or so as I've been using this for a week already so I'm going to have to bite the bullet and purchase this. I will have to remember it in November when Sephora has their 20% off sale... My wallet and Matt are going to be mad at me...
