Well, I have wanted a nose piercing for about 5 years; I've just been too chicken to get one done! My good friend Darci got one a week ago and her getting it inspired me to get my nose done! So without further ado... Here is it!
I did a lot of research into it and while some friends scoffed at the high price, I told myself getting my nose pierced was nothing something I wanted to skimp on! Through Yelp and lots of reviews, I decided on Venus by Maria Tash, who also has an online store! Their reviews on Yelp were just awesome and when I went to the store, I was not disappointed! One of their locations is Broadway and Bleecker next to NYU. I was pretty nervous and they were just so nice without coddling me. I am also nervous how addicting it is. A lot of my friends with tattoos said once they get one, they want more. I can definitely see myself getting some more holes in my body, specifically my ears! :-)
All the nose jewelry comes straight and they bend it for you depending on which nostril your piercing is in. I chose this 1.2mm diamond stud in yellow gold; the original stud I had picked out online was out of stock but when it comes in and I am all healed, I will hopefully be getting it! Once you've picked it out, the person who does your piercing comes down to introduce themselves to you, then has you initial on a little sanitary thing so you know your jewelry is completely sanitary. They also use disposable needles and when they mark your nose (or any other body part) with a pen where they are going to make the piercing, they give you the pen so you are assured they do not reuse it. After I signed the paperwork, I had to wait about 10 minutes because I had a few people before me so Matt and I took a walk around the block.
When we got back inside, we went straight upstairs because she was ready for me. I went into a tiny room where they had a table you sit on like in a doctor's office, complete with the paper on it. We went over everything again, then she asked if I was ready and did it! I definitely felt the needle going through and it wasn't that painful. The day before I had called and asked if it hurt, and the man said it felt like plucking a nose hair. So of course I had plucked about 5 out of my nose, but honestly, the nose plucking hurt worse! For about two hours afterwards, my nose felt like it was getting pinched, so a slight discomfort, but it wasn't unbearable. I bled a bit, but after a few minutes I was ok! She went over aftercare and I already had a sheet with instructions on it.
When I got home I soaked my nose in saline solution like they had told me to, and it got some of the blood off of it. On Monday when I took a shower it got all of the blood off of it. I've had my piercing for about four days now, and it looks like I haven't rejected it so hopefully everything else goes well! While everyone from my mother to all of my friends save one love it, I am just thrilled! Although, I must say when I texted my friend Michael the pictures, his response was, "Did it hurt?" and I replied, but that was it. I admit I was a little hurt he didn't say anything more, especially since he'll sometimes send me pictures of his new puppy that I must 'ooh' and 'ahh' over, but I didn't do it for Michael's approval- I did it for me! I am just beyond happy with my decision to get it and am even happier to have had Matt's full support!
