As it gets colder and colder it's very important to stay moisturized and hydrated! Your skin needs to retain its moisture and an often overlooked part of your skin is your lips! Everyone wants their kisser to look nice and keeping them hydrated and moisturized is a good way to get there!
Smith's Rosebud Salve and Minted Rose are petroleum jellies in a tin form. The rose has a lovely floral scent of, you guessed it, rose, and the minted rose smells like, surprise surprise, mint and roses. Coming in at $6.00 this is a very affordable option. I like putting this on after I put on my moisturizer and sunscreen to prep my lips for lipstick. The mint has a slight cooling affect which is nice. I love how these smell! When applied, it goes on sheer so this is a great option when running errands or you don't feel like putting any effort into it.
Next up is Soap & Glory's A Great Kisser lip moisture balm. This has a lovely vanilla scent (gosh I'm a sucker for nice smelling lip products) and a sheer tint to it, and I'd imagine the Juicy Peach scent has a peach scent. A little bit more expensive than the rosebud salve at $10.00, this is another great inexpensive alternative. I am not a huge fan of tins because you have to dip your finger in there and it's not the most sanitary. And let's be honest, we don't have time to use a lip brush... But this is still a lovely option!
I am very obsessed with Tokyomilk Dark lip elixirs. This line offers very unusual scents that are heavenly! I have most of them, and my favorites are Salted Caramel and Cherry Bourbon. This lip balm is one of my favorites mostly because I am crazy about the scents. I can put this on at night and wake up and feel my lips have been thoroughly moisturized, but I do have to put quite a lot on. It's a much thicker formula than Smith's and Soap & Glory and I really like it. These make great stocking stuffers and little gifts. They are $7.00 and quite addicting! Once you get one, you'll want all of them!
Blistex Intensive Moisturiser is a great option if you're near a drug store, but unfortunately I have not been able to find this in the US. It's plentiful in the UK and on the internet though! It has a very strong minty scent that I do like but others may not. The balm does tingle on your lips which I happen to like, but if you don't like that sensation, you might want to stay away from this. It's like a lotion for the lips; the formula comes out thicker than a lotion but lighter than a cream. I've ordered in from Amazon and paid $2.99 plus shipping which I thought was fairly reasonable. Just a heads up- you will have to wait for it though. I waited about 2 weeks for mine. It's moisturizing, but I end up reapplying this every hour or so.
Pure Smile's Snail Lip Treatment can often be found in Asian markets or stores, so if you leave near one, stop by to check these out! I really enjoy the two I have, one in strawberry and one in mixed fruits. This is an extremely thick and sticky formula, so I only use this in the evening as part of my nighttime skincare routine, so you need to make sure to get all your kisses in before you apply this. I can wake up and still feel like I have something on my lips which I love! Although on very biting days, I will apply this before I walk the dogs. Coming in at $9.90, you may be able to find it slightly cheaper at Asian stores so it's definitely worth checking out! This was one of the few places I found it online. You should also try oo32mm! They usually sell for $4-$5 in stores. This is an awesome alternative to Bite's lip treatment! I highly recommend these but again, it's a very stick formula.
Jack Black's Intense Therapy Lip Balm is a lovely balm and probably one of my most used and beloved lip balms. I have almost every flavor they've ever made and have duplicates of some of them! I like having these in my purse because I use them the most in public. I do not use any of the tins in public because being the clumsy person I am, I'm afraid of dropping it. Plus I do wash my hands before I use the tins to keep them as sanitary as possible. Some of my favorite flavors are Black Tea and Natural Mint (original). It's a petroleum jelly in tube form and it's wonderful! At $7.50, they are definitely worth trying! But I do have to reapply them every few hours.
Lastly, my favorite hydrating lip balm is Bite's Agave Lip Mask. It is very thick so I only use it in the evening and on very cold mornings. Matt doesn't like things on my lips so I have to get my goodnight kiss in before I put anything on my lips or he'll wipe it off! He should be moisturizing his lips though... It's a miracle I got him started on facial moisturizer... But I digress! Be prepared to spend $26.00 for this, but it is well worth it because a little goes a long way. This is a lip treatment I use that I can put on at night and wake up and still feel like I have something on my lips like the Pure Smile. It's much pricier than a lot of the ones mentioned above, so if you're unsure, pop into Sephora and feel the texture first. They have also come out with this in different tints which is nice if you want to wear this during the day!
