Finally! My Pad Thai craving I've had for months is satisfied! But yet somehow not because it was so good I just want more! Roben invited us out to Thai food at SriPraPhai on the recommendation of a co-worker. Well, the food was just fantastic! Located in Woodside, in Queens, NYC, this unassuming storefront was pretty busy on a Friday night, but thankfully we were still able to get a table without waiting. We decided to eat inside because we had been walking a bit to get to the restaurant and we were fairly warm. But as we were seated we could partially see the outside patio area with a fountain and string lights. I could definitely see myself eating outside when the weather is a little cooler!
First up was the Papaya Salad and it was great! It was slightly sour, very cooling and refreshing, and definitely packed some heat! It's a cacophony of flavors that shouldn't work but blend so well together! We opted not to get the dried shrimp on top of it in case Matt wanted to try some, and unfortunately he did not but that’s ok- more for us!
As a second appetizer we opted for the Chicken Satay, mostly for Matt. This wasn’t life-changing, but it was pretty tasty! The chicken wasn’t dry or chewy, and the peanut sauce was really good. I also wasn’t expecting so many either which was a nice surprise.
Roben had his eye on a curry all night so we decided to get the Northern Style Curry Noodles. This was really interesting- you take some of the noodles and then pour the curry over them. The noodles were warmed a bit, very glutenous and sticky which made it a little hard to eat. We ordered a side of jasmine rice which I preferred to pour the curry over. Roben ordered this spicy, which I normally don’t really like anything too spicy. But it wasn’t Thai spicy which is what I was expecting so I could eat it just fine.
Now for the star of the show, the Sautéed Crispy Pork Belly. Matt decided on this which was a miracle in itself because he is super picky and he has a lot of food allergies, which makes it challenging when we go out because we can’t always share entrees or decide on an appetizer. When he ordered the pork belly, the waitress warned us it was very fatty; that’s basically what pork belly is- fat. And that’s where all the flavor comes from too! The pork belly was so tender and juicy, it was great! Matt was nice enough to share it with us and we’re sure glad he did! If you ever make it to Queens, please do yourself a favor and order this dish! You won’t regret it!
Ahhh my beloved Pad Thai! I had been craving pad thai for a few months and when Roben suggest Thai food a few weeks back, I knew I just had to get some! And this dish did not disappoint! It hit the spot and I admit I thought about ordering one to go to eat the next day! I’m already plotting our next trip out there!
We were all pretty full so we decided for no dessert which I immediately regretted about 5 minutes later. And the dessert menu online does not do the restaurant justice, they had at least 4 pages full of dessert. Also, the restaurant menu had a picture of each item next to the description which was fantastic for the person unfamiliar with Thai food or if you just needed a reminder. The ambience was fantastic. The food was fantastic. The company was fantastic. The drinks left a little something to be desired. It was very inexpensive, a great bang for your buck! 10/10 will go back here and cannot wait til next time!
