Yup. You read that right. All you can eat Korean BBQ. And it's fantastic. It's great to go to Korean BBQ with a lot of people because you can all get something different then try a little bit of everything. But here, you get to try everything! If you go to Koreatown in Manhattan a bulgogi or a kalbi will set you back about $30+ plus tax and tip. At Picnic Garden, the most you'll pay is $34 plus tax and tip and it's well worth the trek out to Ktown Flushing in Queens. The price varies for lunch and dinner and which day you go.
When you arrive and there's no wait, you're seated at benches and a grille. Then they tell you can go to the buffet and grab your food! There have a warm prepared food section with scallion pancakes, dumplings, rice, soups, a cold prepared food section with kimchi, japchae, and other ban chan, and a cold protein section. I wish I took more pictures of the buffet so you could get a better idea, but I was so excited and so hungry I couldn't control myself!
The best thing to do it to get some little cups and get your sauces and take them back to your table. Then get some prepared foods and fill your plate up and take that back to your table. After that, you are read to get a clean plate and fill it up with protein. There is seafood, beef, chicken, lamb, pork, everything that's yummy!
When you're finally done with round one, sit down, and the staff will have turned on your grille. You are now ready to put your meat on the grille! Go ahead and hear one of the best sounds ever- that sizzle!
The staff will come around with tongs and scissors and flip your meat and cut them into bite sized pieces. You also have tongs you can keep an eye on your meat too! When your grille gets dirty, the staff will come up and provide a clean grille and slide your meat onto it. The only bad thing is it'll take a little bit to heat up but it's not too bad. If you've reached that point, you've already feasted on some yummy food! I think Matt and I went through about 4 grilles total!
It's very nice they give you a jug of water so you don't have to constantly ask for refills. You can just pour it yourself and when you need a refill of the larger jug, you can ask then!
After you tried a bit of everything, you really just wanna get a huge heaping plate of kalbi. It's just so good. A lot of people have said they ended up smelling like grease after they finish eating. I didn't really notice a smell on me, but if you're sensitive to smells then you might want to go home and shower afterwards but it didn't bother me. I would also definitely tip more than 20% if you end up not getting any drinks because they do a lot of work.
Picnic Garden is such a great experience! If you have never eaten Korean BBQ or if you are a seasoned aficionado, do yourself a favor and make the trip to Flushing! There is nearby parking if you want to drive, or grab a taxi! It's so fun and definitely bring your friends and bring your appetite! Jal Mul Get Sum Ni Da!
