Well, spoilers, this was one of my favorite meals in New Orleans! It was just so good and definitely worth the wait! Mother's makes the best and freshest po' boys I've ever eaten! I think we waited about 10-15 minutes outside, and another 5-10 minutes inside, and we got a table no problem. And I was definitely worried we would have a problem finding somewhere to sit!
Well, I got yelled at for taking the pictures at the counter but you can't see a lot anyway! You stand in line outside, then when you're ushered inside, you stand in line again, but it does move fairly quickly. After you place your order, you go find a place to sit. Thankfully, there was a decent table but Matt didn't like it that much because the line ended around our table and he didn't want people looking at us, but it wasn't that bad.
Matt ordered a small Famous Ferdi Special, and true to form, I ordered a shrimp and oyster po' boy. I had said small but they didn't hear that part, which was ok with me! We got a side order of fries and a side of debri to pour over the fries. After you order, you take your number and go find a place to sit and then wait for your food to be brought to you.
I was thinking the debris would be more gravy-like but it was still good. Matt loved his po' boy and mine was the best I've ever eaten! Definitely well worth the wait! On your receipt, there is no line for tipping and we asked the person in charge of the line if the food runners accepted tips, because ours was fantastic and always refilling our drinks. He said it was uncommon to tip in the south and that tips were welcome, which is strange because every other place we ate always had a room for tips!
If you're ever in New Orleans, please do yourself and your tastebuds a flavor... I mean favor, and go to Mother's! You won't regret it!
