Well, let me start off by saying I don't know if this is a brunch spot or a club. Matt and I were meeting a friend for brunch at Hotel Chantelle, and as we walked in, we were immediately greeted by a bouncer who asked if we were here for brunch. We said yes and he said to go on upstairs and to have a good time. So we went up the staircase where it had a dark wall color, making the narrow stairs seem much more narrow. As we approached the restaurant, we could hear very lively bluesy music and I could feel the ambiance become lighter. When we got to the top, we were greeted with sunlight and openess, or as much openess as NYC allows for.
We had a reservation so seating wasn't a problem and had a nice cozy little four top towards the corner. It seemed like someone had taken a rooftop and added some tiles and put a greenhouse over it. There were lamp posts, greenery, and benches, and outdoor chairs and it was just such a neat vibe!
Our table was really special because it was a shadowbox of flowers which I loved! Now let's get on to the important part- the food!
Our neighbors' food came out and I had been that annoying girl and asked them if I could take a quick picture of their food because it was so neat! They had ordered the skate and yes, it came on a skateboard!
They have brunch drink specials and Amina and I had ordered the Easy Passage and Strawberry Lime Rickey, respectively. Man were they good! We each had a sip of each other's drinks and they were both really good! And just a warning, the Strawberry Lime Rickeys are really easy to get tipsy on because you can hardly taste the alcohol! Two was perfect for me without getting tipsy or anything! And I just loved the cocktail glasses!
Matt ordered the Maison Burger and it was pretty great as far as burgers go! I just loved the fries! They tasted like a gourmet McDonalds french fry, thin, crispy, salty, addicting!
Amina got the Norwegian Benedict and when she dove into her first poached egg, we were all so disappointed because it was overcooked and the yolk was hard. Thankfully, the second egg redeemed the meal by being that runny gooey yellow goodness we all have known to love and expect. It was really good, but she had mentioned she wished she had asked for a side of fries instead of a lackluster afterthought of a salad.
I couldn't decide between the Truffle Grilled Cheese or the Stuffed French Toast, but in the end I wanted more of a brunch food so I went with the French Toast and man I made the right decision, well, that is until next time I go back there for the Truffle Grilled Cheese! Muahahaha! It came with two squished strawberries on it that Amina ate afterwards but I couldn't be bothered with bruised fruit when there was French toast in front of me! The toast was encrusted with Frosted Flakes and it was great, making it crunch and added a nice texture to it!
Overall, the food was really good! I will definitely be going back here for brunch! Everything was reasonably priced as long as you didn't want any sides. That was a main factor in ordering the French toast, I didn't want to buy a side of fries for the grilled cheese! When the band was playing, it was very loud making it hard to talk to each other at times! But who needs to talk when there's food in front of you! This would be an awesome spot for big groups of people too! And sadly, we didn't get any appetizers because we thought the entrees would be enough and there were only three of us, and we were right! But hopefully when I come back next time, there will be enough of us to have an appetizer or two!
