My friend Lindsay (from Agra! lol) is a vegan and invited me to go to a vegan meetup with her. They were going to Bryant Park and touring all the vegan options at the Holiday Village. I said sure, because I knew if I didn't find anything I liked that was vegan I could eat somewhere else and it wouldn't have been a big deal. As the time got closer, Lindsay told me over 300 people had RSVP'd yes. We decided to we didn't want to go in a big group so we went earlier and wandered around by ourselves.
We decided to get something from Marty V's Burgers. As I said earlier, this was my first experience with vegan food and I don't have any food allergies so I was game. I decided to order the Shroom Steakhouse Burger. It was decent. The patty had bee sitting out for a while and it was kind of hard around the edge on part of it, but it was fairly tasty. Sadly, most of the flavor came from the toppings. The burger itself was just alright. The bun, supposedly all vegan, was really good! I also got a side of Cajun Mac. This was really disappointing and really expensive. When this was described as cajun, I thought they'd at least have the trinity in there. Nope. It was literally just two shakes of the spice can. At least the description was honest yet brief. I ate it all though because it was expensive. We also grabbed some cider when we first got there. It was really good but kind of expensive for the little cup you got. But it's Bryant Park. Things are going to be expensive.
Overall, I'd say I had a good first experience. Lindsay had been a vegetarian/vegan for most of her life, I think over 15 years. So she is quite the pro! I wouldn't be completely turned off by vegan food, but I know there's better options out there.
