Anne and I went for brunch at The Coffee Shop on Sunday morning. They didn't have any later reservations that would work, so I made it for 11 a.m. and it was great. But be warned, there is a law in NYC where you cannot purchase cocktails for brunch before 12 p.m. My friend had recommended their caipirinha to me and sadly I couldn't order it. But that's ok! The Coffee Shop is located just west of Union Square so plenty of ways to get there!
The kitschy decor was very unassuming and the outside patio area looked great when the weather was nice out! The bar was very unique- winding in and out, providing a lot of seats for hungry patrons. We arrived a little before 11 a.m. and the seating was fairly crowded in the reserved seating, with many spots open at the bar. By the time we left about an hour later, the entire place was filled!
Anne couldn't decide between a few things; a table behind us got the tostada and I showed it to her and that made up her mind pretty quickly! I couldn't decide either so when the waitress came back and I asked her what she recommended, she suggested the Columbian Arepa, which funnily enough Anne wanted, so it worked out beautifully!
I had been craving orange juice for a few weeks now so I knew I was going to get some come brunch! I'm so glad I did because it really hit the spot!
This is the Columbian Arepa with two poached eggs, chorizo, spinach, and a truffle hollandaise sauce. It also came with breakfast potatoes but I like mine very crispy so I just kind of picked at them and I also ordered a side of fries.
Said fries. So good! When we got them, they arrived cold but the waitress promptly swept them away and fresh new fries quickly appeared on our table! God they were good!
This is the tostada with smoked brisket hash with two eggs over easy, guac, salsa fresca, and pepper jack cheese with black beans and rice. It was so good! I loved everything but the beans and rice, which I'm not a huge fan of but everything else was just fantastic! Anne said she really enjoyed it!
I really wish we had room for dessert because I bet it would have been amazing, but from our two entrees and a side of fries (which were all left unfinished!), we didn't have any room left for anything! It was all moderately priced and the food was just so good! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!
